There is often no synchrony between the art scene and the dynamics of society.
Interviewee: Christoph Schäfer
That’s a highly complex question, because, to take just one example, it is related to the synchrony between the art scene and political necessities or the dynamics of society. Sometimes art is ahead, but then again it often deceives itself and this is not the case. Mostly though it is – so to say – after the event. It often takes far too long until word about something gets around and it can be addressed, and by that time momentum has long ebbed away. This also makes it extremely difficult to finance projects.
