The methods of socially engaged and participatory art are co-opted and absorbed politically in various contexts, or to put it differently, their label is misused. There are no firm criteria for either the conditions of production or the performance of participatory or socially engaged art. How can we identify viable criteria and formulate a theoretical basis?
