There were battles between squatters and police in the Hafenstraße.
Interviewee: Christoph Schäfer
Really crucial to the background of Park Fiction was what went on in the Hafenstraße, where one of the hardest and protracted battles between squatters and police took place in Hamburg/Germany. This was played out mainly in the 1980s. In winter ’87 what became known as the barricade days took place. In 1993 a new development plan was drawn up, based on a European-wide call for proposals as part of an architecture and urban planning competition. In this plan the grounds, where today the park is, were to be built on. The Golden Pudel Club, a music venue, was to be torn down. The building is the oldest in St Pauli located right on the harbour front, still standing today.
