We didn’t want flags that are reminiscent of the classic St Pauli fan aesthetic.

Christoph Schäfer: We’d already thought about it, and we didn’t want red, we didn’t want white, nor any black, nothing that was reminiscent of the classic St Pauli fan aesthetic, black/white skull and crossbones or anything similar, and we decided then for yellow… Margit Czenky: Nah…, the first ones were chequered pattern, but pink and white. We then couldn’t get any more of the fabric, so it was turned into yellow. Yellow checks is also completely unsuspicious. Hospitality…anyone can join in and take part. What was important for NoBNQ was that the people didn’t want to be co-opted into something from the start, and for this reason we left out other issues, we concentrated solely on what was important here. But that’s quite a lot in any case, because it’s all about how you want to live, do you want to live differently.
